All federal government employees, including contractors, will be granted payment agreements for rent owed in February.
Because of the federal government shutdown lasting from December 22nd, 2018 through January 25th, 2019, Northwest Housing Alternatives has directed the property management companies for their 32 properties across the state of Oregon to create payment agreements for all federal government employees, as well as federal government contractors, who are unable to pay February rents in full. In addition, all February late fees for those affected by the government shutdown will be waived.
“Our highest priority is to provide housing stability to our residents,” said Trell Anderson, NHA’s Executive Director. “When the government shutdown put families at risk of losing their housing because they could not make a rent payment, we wanted to work with them to avoid that so that we can keep families stable and kids in school.”
NHA began receiving inquiries in January from their property management partners regarding concerned residents. “With rents due today, we wanted to proactively work with residents directly affected by the federal government shutdown to ensure their continued housing stability in NHA properties,” said Ray Hackworth, NHA’s Director of Asset Management.
