Martha McLennan Announces Leadership Transition

The NHA Board of Directors has some big news to share:

Dear Friends –

After more than 15 years of transformational service, Martha McLennan is preparing to step down as the Executive Director of Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA) later this year, and we are beginning the process of searching for her replacement. NHA is in a solid financial position and is poised for organizational growth. There are many projects in the development pipeline that will move ahead in the next few years including the redevelopment of our Milwaukie Campus, which begins construction this month. The NHA Board of Directors has put together a thoughtful plan for the transition and will be conducting a careful search. Martha will remain in place until the new Executive Director is hired.

During her time at NHA Martha has made a tremendous impact on the affordable housing landscape in Oregon. She has grown the organization from a staff of 17 to a staff of 36. With her leadership, NHA has developed almost 2,200 units across the state and our current portfolio includes 1,885 affordable apartments in 100 properties in 16 Oregon counties. These properties serve a wide variety of households ranging from group homes for people with developmental disabilities to 100+ unit buildings for families and seniors. Our residents have average annual household incomes under $16,000. Our residents save more than $13.3 million each year compared to market rates as a result of our affordable rents and rent assistance partnerships.  NHA also provides effective resident services at our properties, and provides homeless intervention services to more than 200 households per year in Clackamas County. Martha’s tireless efforts, and the great team at NHA, have made this possible.

Thank you to all of our community partners throughout the years who have helped us create opportunity through housing. Without your commitment, talents, resources, advocacy and support none of this would be possible. We will be in contact once the search is complete with an introduction to the new Executive Director, and we look forward to continuing our work with you to provide housing stability for Oregonians in need.

Sincerely,
NHA Board of Directors
